my previous entry got swallowed, so let's just see what i can remember. it was only about yesterday, this shouldn't be too hard. yesterday i had slushy coffee for breakfast before heading out to BRWI (k picked me up after all.) it was awesome. the short film left everyone stunned and now i want to be a filmmaker (add that to world-famous chef and author of the next american classic.) went to the screenwriting panel, and then to the one-man panel on life writing, which was awesome, because craig howes is.
i went home at lunch because i wanted to nap before my vol shift at taste of china. it was dead at NBEH, though. i could have just napped there. but i saw some friends (also volunteering) and ate some fortune cookies ... miss those strawberry flavored ones from royal pacific in SF. mmm.
k picked me up after and we headed to gen's for her rockin' annual halloween party ... i rolled up a sheet of paper, called it a stake, and that was my costume after all. we got there just in time to play "what the f*ck?" - a drinking game gen and derek picked up from urban outfitters. i decided not to drink because i had to get up early to "go to class" (basically turn on the computer and chat with classmates about a boring case study .. but still.) it was a good thing, too, because i sucked and would have been wasted by the time we left. sample questions: "would the subject prefer to have sex with a person of the same gender, or with a family member?" (i got it wrong) and "would the subject shave off the top layer of his or her skin and then roll around in a sandbox for a million dollars?" (i got it wrong) and "would the subject stick a tiny cactus up his or her ass for a brand new convertible?" (i got it wrong!) ... fortunately, i was never the subject, and before anyone could get too far gone, goku showed up with a screening copy of THE SHOW, episode 1!
truth be told, i was nervous. i wondered how a lot of things were going to look. AND i was severely regretting that beach scene. but i just shut up and chewed my fingers while everyone settled in to watch. k and i stood in the back of the room while goku popped in the tape and friends and strangers lent their moral support. i was blown away. 1) i know nothing, as usual. 2) k photos extremely well, and 3) goku is a kick-ass W, P & D. the stuff that looked ridiculous IRL looked hot on screen. another thing? the show is FUNNY. i laughed out loud, and not just because i was standing next to k and he needed me to. the short of it: THE SHOW looks great. i worried for nothing and k was right to be smug. it's appropriately cheesy, and WAY better than its, um, ancestor show. k's martial arts choreography is awesome, and goku made them all look SO GOOD. i was really happy for k, and i think k was happy too.
oh, two things. the opener, which i was previously so irritated about (something about cheerleader sex face girls being deemed prettier and smarter than me) - well, i can now be sincerely glad i never occurred to k for that scene, because the character is an imbecile. and the other thing - the beach scene? i am eating my waffle (singular) with no syrup this morning. that should give you an idea of how the beach scene went. thank god it was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it. p.s. if you ever happen to see it, you'll probably point out that i too am an imbecile. oh well, at least i'm being an imbecile as background fodder.
okay, i'm online and "in class." it is so funny. it's just like being in class for real ... got a good argument going but sometimes we start chatting about stuff that has nothing to do with anything ... for instance, two people are talking about bamboo poles vs high tech fishing boats and equipment right now. awesome. i of course have a separate window open (and i'm sure some of the others do, too, judging by their delays.) oh yeah, and one guy is not even here yet.
mkay, i just made my first out-there point of the morning. and now i need to back it up. i just said, in a nutshell, that immersion (at the elementary level) is an act of cruelty. and now all eyes are on me. bye, i don't think i'll be back for awhile.
