this was my very first blogspot space. it went through many incarnations before it evolved into this final post. it started with student teaching in 2004 and ended with a brand-new endeavor. if you're an original reader, i can now be found at any and all of the sites in the sidebar, or leave me a message: thatdamnedcat@gmail.com. happy blogging!

sinkorswim

the main reason i came back (well, aside from the fact that the big U is pissing me off) is because i wanted to mention last night's dream before i forgot it. i was surfing with a bunch of people, or paddling out (i think in real life i could maybe manage that much) when i discovered that we were surrounded by sharks. i panicked and pulled as much of myself onto the board as possible, and noticed how far from shore we were. (nope, not sure who i was with. just some people.) then somebody said, "look, they're actually dolphins." upon closer inspection i saw that they were indeed dolphins, not sharks. i plunged into the water and swam with them (even though in real life i'd still cling to the board for dear life ... i have no more desire to swim with wild mammals than i have to swim with toothy fishes.) it was still scary, and cold, but exhilarating. and fast. like being borne along by a cold and dark but benevolent current.
